While equipment will vary based on manufacturer and model, these tables include the most common points to import for each Equipment Type. Not every point in the table will be available nor is required. The tables break points into sections to choose from based on the parts that may be available based on equipment models.
A Note on Points
It is best to start by selecting all the available setpoints along with the matching sensor point if available (e.g. ‘Discharge Air Temperature Setpoint’ and ‘Discharge Air Temperature’). For setpoint points that do not have a matching variable point, consider another point that can be brought in based on the controls to measure against setpoint. For example, if you have a ‘HHW Flow Setpoint’, but no ‘HHW Flow’ is there a ‘HHW Pressure’ point to integrate instead.
Next look for any status/command pair points (e.g. ‘Pump Run Command’ and ‘Pump Run’) to import. Also include any occupancy points that are available (e.g. ‘Occupied Command’).
A limited number of alarm points are typically integrated to reduce noise in the Platform. Filter alarms and a general alarm point (e.g. ‘CT Fail’) are usually the only two. More can be integrated if requested by the client.
Plant Loops & ‘System’ Plant Points
Plant loops and equipment are not always straightforward. The Switch protocol for assigning equipment types and labels follows:
- The Equipment Type should indicate what type of plant or loop it is, some common ones are:
- Heating hot water (HHW)
- Chilled water (CHW)
- Condenser water (CDW)
- Domestic hot water (DHW)
- Heating hot water (HHW)
- The Equipment Label should identify the specific loop such as primary, secondary, tertiary. A secondary loop is connected to the primary loop, etc.
Example:
In the case where there are multiple independent ‘primary’ loops, such as a base building condenser water plant and a tenant condenser water plant, append the classifier to the end of the tenant condenser water plant Equipment Label. The base building systems do not include a classifier. Refer to the table below.
The secondary loops will follow the same convention. If there is only a single loop, no additional identification is necessary.

General system points such as ‘CHW Common Header Leaving Temperature’, ‘CHW dP’, ‘HHW Plant Enable’, ‘Total Heating Flags’, etc should be assigned to this plant loop equipment. All other specific points for chillers, pumps, boilers, etc. that belong to a clearly defined bit of equipment should be assigned under that equipment label.
